DISCO lives!

After only 10 days to promote and organise it STUDIO 64 on Friday R.O.C.K.E.D.

BGWMC is one of my favourite venue’s, and it’s the first place I ever performed. I just love the SMELL of it: slightly musty, tinged with an indefinable smell of good times past. I swear that room has good karma.

We got there early to decorate- The 4ft helium ‘6′ and ‘4′ ballons were possibly the best £16 I have ever spent on Ridley Road market and we got ourselves a little high blowing up 100 balloons. Balloons such simple objects really, but bringers of such child-like joy. Then after some silver draping, erection of the kissing booth, and a lighting tutorial from club manger Martin we were ready to go.

I only had 10 days to promote/organise STUDIO 64 which is not a lot in promoting terms, so I was a bit nervous. But we had over 170 people through the door! Whoop! It was great to see so many friends there-but also nice to see people who I have never seen before in my life! They came to my party yaaaay!

The Action Men- scare some small children (just kidding they were TERRIFIED)

All the acts were great. Lewis rocked (I even had a dance with his Mum), The Action Men ruled, The (lone) Debutante Jess not only looked beautiful but made everyone happy with her wonderful 60s and disco sounds! Then Charlie Boy finished it all off with a brilliant disco electro set that kept everyone dancing till the wee hours.

I did my electro Barbarella show and Donna Summer tribute. BGWMC was actually the first place I did my Barbarella show two and half years ago so it brought back some memories.: I remember I was wearing these ridiculous platform silver stripper boots that I could not walk in (mine now are specially made not to resemble a Blackpool stripper) plus I was so nervous I drank a bit too much and just basically fell around the stage and crashed into the silver beaded curtain.CRINGE. I have hopefully moved forward since then!

The cosmic kissing booth was a hit, I even put in a little lighting system in that you could turn on and off. As the night wore on it certainly got more use- and with five people in it getting slightly over excited making it slowly fall over….like in films when someone yells ‘Timber!’. All I could see were all these little legs covered in multi-coloured tights wriggling at the other end.Muchos funny. Luckily no one was injured and even the bouncer cracked a smile as we pushed it back up.

After a prolonged final dance and a clean up we headed, led by manager Martin, to Damascu on Shoreditch high street- and had possibly the best chicken and lamb swarma I have ever had. I hadn’t eaten for 12 hours, but still mighty tasty. By 4:30am I was asleep humming ‘I feel love’ and woke up to a slightly deflated and sad looking 64 balloon in my kitchen. But don’t worry balloon you will have another outing I promise!

I LOVE LEWIS! If you have seen a man with surrounded by 100s of people on Brick Lane on a Sunday you have been Floyd-ed.

Lewis and I performed together at 100 Club (supporting Chas’n'Dave- sob!) a few months ago- he  androcked out, I Go-Goed my arse off and had a jolly good time. So I am very excited to welcome him back for a full live set. Prepare to be amazed how one man can make so much sweet noise!
